Losing a job is may be far more significant than losing its income. With luck finding another may replace the lost income. But being “let go” also takes a toll on how we feel about our self, and particularly if we previously felt secure knowing we had done a good job, thinking we were recognized as such. Feelings of “failure” can take a serious toll on self-confidence, increase anxiety and depression, result in misdirected and unnecessary tension at home and arguments with spouse or significant other. Anxiety and depression can also result in further loss of self-confidence which, in turn, makes making it more difficult to self-motivate to seek employment.
