Anxiety and depression can result from things visible such as relationship and employment problems. But their cause may be less obvious. Even the common cold impacts mood, for example. And then there our hormonal cycle (yes, both men and women have a hormonal cycle!). And there may be times when anxiety and depression may seem so bad, may be impacting our ability to function that we would benefit by seeking assistance from a counselor or psychotherapist, or medications to reduce depression monitored by a medical/psychiatric professional.
In the case of “bi-polar” (sometimes called “manic-depressive”) disorder the sufferer experiences periods of highs and lows depending on the how serious the problem. And while there is no known “cure” for chronic depression or bi-polarity, their severity can be reduced, if not managed, through counseling, psychotherapy and medication.
